do you believe in the bohemian ideals

Wed Sep 16, 2009, 5:12 PM
No one on my bus does.
Money, apparently, is all anyone needs and 100% of the students that spoke up in our "debate" agreed that they'd rather be rich and stupid than poor and intelligent.
All I could think of was poor Thoreau writhing in his grave.
Love? No, apparently, all women are skunks that can't love men. They just want money, and to fall in love is considered the ultimate failure.* Hello, rap generation. It's nice to meet you. Now I'd like to kill every last one of you.
My objection that money can't buy introspection, Freedom, God or Justice was laughed at. laughed at. What sort of world is this? Where did American teenagers get the horrible idea that these were things to be laughed at? When last I checked Americans prided themselves on ingenuity, not on being a rich douchebag (realize I'm not taking politicians into account. Being a rich douchebag is a prerequisite there.) and living your life easily. My life took a very Brave New World turn today, and I don't like it at all. Since when do you have to have money to travel? WHAT HAPPENED TO WALKING? When did fucking football become more important than independent thought?
Is THIS what we've been conditioned to think is important?
Where is the Enlightenment of my generation? Where is the saving grace for a generation that will have nothing to do with the thought of it? How can you fix something broken when it keeps insisting not to be?
What is this world coming to? This is no way to live.

Honestly, I'm pretty run-of-the-mill. Every idea I've had has probably already been had by someone else, and someone else has probably done everything I've done already and ten times better. I don't have any special talents, and my art is sort of mediocre- I have lots of trouble with faces and angles. I have one favorite angle that I tend to stick with, even when I don't want to.
I'm a senior at my high school, and luckily my admin agreed to waive some of the requirements for graduation so I can have something akin to being on time, and speaking of time, I don't keep good schedules so my updates are erratic, depending on what's going on at the time.
I spend most of my time roleplaying and screwing around reading fiction. When I'm not doing that, I'm writing (things that are usually questionable) drawing (things that are occasionally questionable) spending time with my friends, or spending time alone outside (for photography purposes.)
